They said it must take up to eight weeks to repair the recently damaged subsea cables that caused Internet connectivity issues in Nigeria and certain other West African nations, according to MainOne, a provider of digital infrastructure services.

The West Africa Cable System (WACS), the Africa Coast to Europe (ACE), MainOne, and SAT3 were among the undersea cables that were impacted.

Data and fixed telecom services were severely impacted by this disruption in several
West African nations, including Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, and Cote d’Ivoire, as well as in eastern and southern Africa.

According to a statement made by the company on March 15, fixing its underwater cables could require a week or two.

Nonetheless, MainOne said in a statement on Monday that network access has been restored in the area, but the repair process will take longer than expected because of the severity of the cable damage.

The statement says as follows: “MainOne has remained resilient and agile in the face of recent challenges, concentrating on providing value to customers and supporting the digital ecosystem in West Africa.

For the past week, MainOne has enabled regional interconnection and restored services to guarantee stability in the digital ecosystem throughout the region.

Furthermore, we are proactively collaborating with vessel owners, permitting authorities, and maintenance partners to accelerate the repair of our underwater cable.

“We have high hopes that the planned repairs to our cable will be completed and services fully restored, allowing us to carry on with the submarine cable’s integrity.”

“The necessary spare parts for the cable repair have already been loaded onto the repair vessel. Given the quantity of cables damaged in this incident, cable repair times are estimated to be between six and eight weeks.
