(Breaking news) Strike: SSANU, NASU, NAATS block UNILAG gate
On Wednesday, a peaceful demonstration was organized by the National Association of Academic Technologists of the University of Lagos members, the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational Associated Institutions, and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities in front of the school’s gate.
They made it difficult for cars to move around and restricted the free traffic flow in the area.
They performed songs and held placards to express their dissatisfaction with the Federal Government regarding their salaries being withheld.
For approximately a month, the Joint Advisory Committee (JAC) of SSANU and NASU had been drawing the government’s notice regarding their exclusion from the withheld salaries that it started paying to the Academic Staff Union of Universities in February.
When the ASUU, SSANU, and NAATS went on strikes in 2022 that lasted eight months, four months, and five and a half months, respectively, the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari invoked a “No Work, No Pay policy” and withheld their salaries.
On the other hand, NAATS also signed on and launched its three-day warning strike today.
